Since 2008, every year in March the Institut Francais de Birmanie organises the Yangon Photo Festival (YPF) under the patronage of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.  The Myanmar photographers have the possibility to present their work through exhibitions, screenings and talks. They also compete for the Best Photo-Story Awards of the Year in different categories. Throughout the year YPF organises photography workshops for the Myanmar photographers with up until now over 500 photographers taking part in different workshops and talks.

The 8th YPF organised under the title "Eyewitness: Myanmar by Myanmar Photographers" gave the best Myanmar photographers the possibility to decide on and show the challenges confronting their country. This year Minzayar Oo, one of my favourite photographers in Myanmar, won the 1st prize in the Professional Photographer Category with his story on the jade mining (more here). The photo documentary won multiple international awards.

Everyday in Hpakant (Kachin state) thousands of young men swarm across mountains of mining waste dumped in search of raw jade stones. Many accidents happend this past year.

During the days of the festival other international renowned photographers had their work shown like the photographers of the prestigious photo agency Gamma or the German photographer Hans Silvester. He was also present in Yangon being also a member of the jury. His exhibition which was shown both in the River Gallery and Goethe Institut displayed photographs of young boys in the East African Suri tribe which presented the relation between nature, animals and people. 

This year's edition it was a special one as YPF managed to bring in Yangon the World Press Foto 2015 exhibition "the most popular travelling photo event in the world", as it is known. Below you will see my favourite photographs (many part of photo stories) which were awarded at the WPF 2015. The exhibition is shown in different locations throughout the world to inform and help create a better understanding of the world through relevant photojournalism and documentary photography. Minzayar Oo will be the lucky one who will travel to Amsterdam this year in April to take part in the award ceremony of the World Press Foto 2016.

Festivalul de Fotografie din Yangon

În luna martie a fiecărui an, începând cu 2008, Institutul Francez din Myanmar organizează Festivalul de Film din Yangon (FFY) sub patronajul doamnei Aung San Suu Kyi. Fotografii din Myanmar au posibilitatea să-și prezinte munca de-a lungul unor expoziții, proiecții și conferințe. De asemenea ei participă la competiția organizată pe diferite categorii care oferă premii pentru cele mai bune documentare foto. Mai mult, de-a lungul anului FFY organizează cursuri de fotografie. Până acum peste 500 de fotografi au participat la cursuri și conferințe.

Cea de-a opta ediție a FFY s-a intitulat "Martor: Myanmarul prin ochii Fotografilor din Myanamr" și a dat posibilitatea celor mai buni fotografi myanmarezi să decidă care sunt și să prezinte provocările cu care se confruntă țara. Anul acesta, Minzayar Oo, unul dintre fotografii mei locali preferați, a câștigat premiul întâi la categoria Fotograf Profesionist cu povestea lui despre exploatațiile miniere de jade (mai multe în engleză aici). Documentarul foto a câștigat și alte premii internaționale. 

De-a lungul festivalului, pozele unor fotografi internaționali renumiți, cum ar fi fotografii prestigioasei agenții Gamma sau fotograful german Hans Silvester, au fost prezentate publicului. Acesta a fost prezent la festival, fiind unul dintre membrii juriului. Fotografiile acestuia au fost expuse atât la galeria River cât și la Institutul German Goethe. Pozele prezintă băieți din tribul Suri din Africa de Est în relația lor cu natura și animalele.

Ediția de anul acesta a fost una specială deoarece FFY a reușit să aducă în Yangon World Press Foto (WPF) 2015 care este cea mai populară expoziție de fotojurnalism din lume. Mai jos veți vedea fotografiile care m-au impresionat cel mai mult. Expoziția este prezentată în diferite locații din lume pentru a informa și a ajuta la o înțelegere mai bună a lumii prin fotojurnalism relevant și de cea mai bună calitate. Minzayar Oo este norocosul care va participa la ceremonia de decernare a premiilor WPF 2016 din Amsterdam în luna aprilie.
